I’ve been doing at-home gel nails regularly for 5 years. I decided to try Foundation Flex (FF) to see if my at-home gel nails lasted longer and were better protected. I’m so hard on my nails that even professionally done gel nails don’t last long. This product does make my nails last longer and protect the natural nail from chipping, BUT I need 3 coats to attain both strength and longer wear. After the third layer, the product is opaque and strong–strong like a hybrid between gel and acrylic. I can pinch my nails from side to side, and they hardly move. My at-home gel nails usually look beautiful for 10 days, and then it’s downhill from there. With 3 layers of FF I get 14 beautiful days.Regarding the learning curve, my nails looked horrible the first time. But I was stubborn and very busy, so I kept them on for two weeks, rolling my eyes every time I looked at them for very long. This product is somewhat rubbery and a little more difficult to work with than normal gel. The trick is to do two very thin coats and then one thicker coat. Make sure there are no bubbles in any of the layers, or that little bubble will become a bump that will come through ALL the layers. I recommend pointing your nails down and looking down the length of your nail to make sure the product is evenly spread from side to side.Regarding chipping, I still tend to chip at the ends before the nail lifts at the nail bed–even with capping. I tried capping my nail with the first two layers of FF this time to see if that will extend the wear time. I also added ProBond to my routine as the step after PH bond (which is basically an alcohol prep). I’ll update if I start to get more than 14 beautiful days out of my nails.

This product has stopped my gel manicures from peeling. I have strong nails and I would eventually start to have one or two nails peel at the corners. Now that I am using this, I can keep a manicure up to three weeks if I want to. Excellent improvement.

I am a big fan of Gelish gel nail products, but this particular one, not so much.First of all, having to apply two coats before applying gel color is an added step that just prolongs your manicure. I found that my manicures peeled from the base when I used Foundation Flex as a base, and this happened with two manicures I used it for. This rarely, if ever, happens when I use the regular Gelish foundation base, and that requires only one coat.I tried using one coat of FF under gel color, and I found that the color cracked.I think Foundation Flex is fine if you want a clear, clean manicure or with a French mani. I’ll hold on to it for that, but I don’t plan on purchasing it again.

Love this. No base coat needed. You do need a top coat tho. Easy to apply.

The gel polish is too thick and not easy to use. Did not last one day and peeled off easily. Worst of all you can not return it. Don’t buy it.

Only worked with Foundation Flex once but will say it has a thicker easy to apply consistency that works. When a gel product is thin it can be more difficult to manage causing product to bleed out. Not the case here allowing for two thin layers with no leak out. Seemed to give my natural nails that little bit of cushion Gelish implied it would. Nails felt more protected prior to loading up the layers of colored gel. The additional gel layers went on very smoothly. Foundation flex covered all nail imperfections leaving an amazing surface to layer on. Time and use will determine if it really helps with chipping but I can say that it added longevity to the gel manicure. Unable to tell you just how much though, about to leave on vacation I stayed with the normal two week manicure schedule. It will be interesting to learn the answer to the…how long did it extend my gel manicure out…question. Based on my experience and nail condition at the end of two weeks, best guess is an extra week. Again, time will tell. So far I’m liking it!

I found the color to be much more transparent than in reviews and images. All in all it holds up well, just note that you’ll need 3 coats of this color.
